Original text

Original Chinese verse

等待浪静道此危

若要安然求稳静

风波作浪欲何为

急水滩头放船归

Allusion

Guo Ziyi was a great Tang general who helped pacify the An Lushan and Shi Siming rebellions. Serving through seven reigns, he was made grand marshal and Prince of Fenyang. Even around age eighty he put on armor when enemies invaded. He died peacefully of illness at eighty-five.

Translated verse

This lot shows a boat moving through a rapid shoal. Keep to the old and wait for the right time.

Explanation

Launching in rapid water means danger. Wait in risky places. If asking about plans, they can be carried out when the time fits.

Reading the sign

The present moment is not suitable for action. Wait for this condition to pass before making the plan.

The lot says timing, affinity, and fit must match. Between two people, both sides must also be suited to each other before real achievement can be made.

By question

General Matters

The current timing is dangerous and not suited to your plan. Wait until the harsh condition passes.

Love and Marriage

Love has not arrived because the timing is wrong. If the person does not fit you, do not pursue. Marriage should be based on compatible character, not appearance or wealth. A breakup likely had real causes, so reunion is not necessary.

Work, Job Search, and Business

Choose work that fits your ability, not only salary, location, or title. In business, match people to roles and choose familiar fields where you can perform well.

Exams, Competition, and Promotion

Choose contests that fit your strengths. Promotion should be pursued only if the position, superior, and your ability fit well. Otherwise wait.

Investment and Money

Besides timing, choose investments that fit your temperament.

Business Trade

Choose projects that match your interest, skill, and personality.

Property

Do not judge only by price. Choose property that suits your use and purpose.

Health

Medicine must fit your constitution and the principle of treatment. Do not take things randomly.

Change and Transfer

Do not change blindly just because the present is poor. Know the purpose of change first.

Pregnancy and Children

Choose the fertile timing carefully before union.

Legal Matters

Harmony benefits all. If each side steps back, the dispute can calm.

Finding People or Things

The missing person or item may be among crowds or mixed places, but searching may still return without result.

Travel and Going Abroad

For distant development, wait for a good time and start after the storm has passed.
