Liulang Is Rescued

Middle lot

In drought the fields are all withered.

Thanks to Heaven, sweet rain falls steadily.

Flowers, fruit, grasses, and trees are all moistened.

Then one knows a single rain is worth a thousand gold.

Original text

Original Chinese verse

始知一雨值千金

花果草木皆润泽

谢天甘雨落淋淋

旱时田里皆枯槁

Allusion

Yang Yanzhao, known as Liulang, was the sixth son of Yang Ye. When Yang Ye was surrounded and died, and Yang Qilang was killed while seeking help, Liulang retreated to Calabash Valley. A monk from Mount Wutai, Yang Wulang, rescued him from danger. The story is an image of timely rain in a desperate moment.
