Meng Jiangnu Searches for Her Husband

Lower lot

News from the edge of the sky is hard to understand.

Do not be suspicious or force what you desire.

If you grind a stone hoping to make a mirror,

You only waste your own labor.

Original text

Original Chinese verse

曾知枉费己工夫

若把石头磨作镜

切莫多心望强求

天边消息实难思

Allusion

Meng Jiangnu's husband Fan Qiliang was sent to work on the Great Wall soon after their marriage. She went to find him and learned he had died. Seeking his bones for burial, she bit her finger and used blood to identify them, then wept so bitterly that the Great Wall collapsed. The story became a symbol of faithful devotion.

Translated verse

This lot shows keeping the ordinary course in quiet. Staying within yourself is favorable.

Explanation

A thousand plans only waste effort. Better to keep the old. What cause is there to force it?

Reading the sign

The news you hear does not make sense, and private desire should not be used to force an outcome.

This is like grinding a brick or stone to make a mirror. However hard you work, the method cannot reach the goal.

By question

General Matters

The current method cannot reach the goal. Continuing this way only wastes effort.

Love and Marriage

This love does not belong to you, and private forcing will not obtain it. Step back to avoid wasted effort.

Work, Job Search, and Business

Effort brings little result because of obstruction. Good deeds and repentance can alter the direction.

Exams, Competition, and Promotion

Repeated attempts may still fail. If the chance has passed many times, forcing it is useless and retreat is safer.

Investment and Money

Money management may lose more the more you act. Better protect the principal.

Business Trade

Hard work may not lift business, and hoped-for profit is like morning dew.

Property

Buyers are not interested. Repentance and improvement may bring a later turn.

Health

This illness is hard to treat and may worsen with more treatment. Karmic illness needs repentance.

Change and Transfer

Change may be no better than the present. Diligent repentance can help matters turn.

Pregnancy and Children

Children follow destiny. If seeking a son, look to your virtue.

Legal Matters

It is too late to seek a turn in litigation. Accept the situation and follow the outcome.

Finding People or Things

The lost item is already gone. Searching is wasted labor, so forget it.

Travel and Going Abroad

Distant development may sound better, but Heaven does not agree. Stay where you are.
