Foyin Meets Dongpo

Middle lot

Sit quietly in leisure, without worry.

After eating, drink tea, sometimes sitting, sometimes lying down.

Put down body and mind, and do not rush.

Then resentment and disaster will not be invited.

Original text

Original Chinese verse

必定不招冤与祸

放下身心不用忙

饱后喝茶时坐卧

清闲无忧静处坐

Allusion

Foyin was Xie Duanqing, later named Liaoyuan by Emperor Shenzong of Song and known as Foyin. Su Dongpo once tried to tempt him back to lay life, but Foyin remained unmoved and often awakened Dongpo with Buddhist teaching. The story warns against stirring trouble when there is none and against acting in haste.

Love and Marriage

Love has not reached its time. Wait quietly. If it is yours, it will come. Do not rush marriage. If separated, the other person will speak if reunion is possible. If there is an affair, do not exhaust yourself chasing it.

Work, Job Search, and Business

Work has no clear direction yet. Wait before seeking. Career and business remain plain, with neither large gain nor large loss.

Exams, Competition, and Promotion

This is not the right time. Wait calmly.

Investment and Money

Financial gain is not ready. Stay easy and harvest later.

Business Trade

The market is weak. A conservative and relaxed approach is best.

Buyers or sellers are not coming yet. Wait for a later chance.

Health

Long illness has not improved much. A broad heart, rest, and travel may help chronic conditions.

Pregnancy and Children

No news yet. Do not worry. Regulate the body and rest, and a daughter can come later.

Legal Matters

Litigation harms both sides. Each side stepping back brings peace.

Finding People or Things

Do not be anxious. Let go of the search and release the attachment.

Travel and Going Abroad

The distant outlook is not bright now. Going out adds fatigue, so wait at home.
