Dong Zhuo Takes Lu Bu as His Son

Middle lot

Remember these sincere warnings well.

Do not mistake a traitor for a son.

Do not crave the little sweetness before your eyes.

Think of how things turned out in earlier years.

Original text

Original Chinese verse

更虑他年前样思

莫贪眼下有些甜

却为认贼将作子

无限好言君记取

Allusion

In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Dong Zhuo bought Lu Bu's loyalty with a fine horse and gold, then took him as an adopted son. Lu Bu later became involved with Dong Zhuo's beloved Diao Chan, turned against him with Wang Yun, and killed Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu himself was later defeated and executed by Cao Cao. The story warns against relationships built on greed and false loyalty.

Translated verse

This lot shows mistaking a thief for one's own child. In all matters, be serious and guard against false appearances.

Explanation

This one move must not be wrong. Keep it in your heart, and do not let loneliness or greed push you into error.

Reading the sign

Past experience must be remembered. Do not be tempted by short-term benefit.

Think about earlier failures before you act. The warning is to avoid repeating the same mistake.

By question

General Matters

The situation is like accepting a thief as family. What looks sweet now may become regret later.

Love and Marriage

Do not rush into attachment because of loneliness or desire. Look farther ahead and ask whether the relationship can really bring peace. A past breakup may already have spared both sides further trouble.

Work, Job Search, and Business

A job or business opportunity may look attractive, but short gain can hide later harm. Let experience guide the decision and keep the strategy long-term.

Exams, Competition, and Promotion

A result that looks glorious may bring a heavier burden later. Do not chase status that will only add pressure and regret.

Investment and Money

A hot market can cloud judgment. Remember earlier losses and avoid speculation.

Business Trade

Do not chase immediate profit or risky shortcuts. Practical, honest operations are the safer path.

Health

Learn from others rather than planting their mistakes in your own life. Seek protection, steady the heart, and avoid harmful remedies.

Change and Transfer

If you feel dissatisfied, do not change only because the new option looks sweet. Study other people's experience first.

Pregnancy and Children

Consider the labor of raising a child. If pregnancy comes, extra care and protection are needed.

Legal Matters

Litigation brings strain. Peaceful settlement is the better course.

Finding People or Things

Searching may require much running around and the result is uncertain. If the item is small, let the worry go.

Travel and Going Abroad

Do not be dazzled by promises abroad. Honest work where you are can also bring success.
